A Farewell to Paula

Paula, colleagues, and a few friends gathered around a table in Glasgow

Last Friday, we got together for a farewell evening with Paula before her move to Spain.

Paula has been part of our research group for around six years, starting with her MSc project, followed by her PhD and another year and a half as a postdoctoral researcher. That's quite a long time to spend in one research group, and she has been part of its journey through several stages.

I've really enjoyed working with her during my time in the group. We've had many productive discussions, shared ideas, and spent plenty of time working through the usual challenges that come with research. It's been a good experience, both academically and personally.

One thing about university life is that people are always moving on. Students finish their degrees, postdocs take up new positions, and people you've grown used to seeing almost every day eventually leave. It's a normal part of academia, but that doesn't necessarily make saying goodbye any easier.

We spent the evening at a pub in Glasgow, with some of us from the group and a few friends joining in. It was a nice evening, with plenty of conversation and laughter, and a chance to spend some time together outside the lab.

It's sad to see Paula leave, but I'm also happy for her as she moves on to something new.

Wishing you all the best in Spain, Paula. It's been a pleasure working with you, and you'll certainly be missed!
